The tolnaftate in Formula 3® is in-solution. Formula 3® was the first product available to patients utilizing Tetra’s patented technology which uses natural jojoba oil as the vehicle. Simply put, Tetra’s process makes it impossible to separate the tolnaftate from the jojoba oil. So, when the jojoba oil is quickly absorbed by the skin, the tolnaftate is delivered directly to the infected area right along with it! In fact, Formula 3® Antifungal is so effective, that it’s received the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Seal of Approval. For best results, we recommend you apply fast-acting, quick-absorbing Formula 3® Antifungal after showering, when the skin has the greatest capacity for absorption. (See instructions below). Typically, your bottle of Formula 3® Antifungal will last between three and six months, making it an exceptional value. Although Formula 3® Antifungal was developed to assist in healing, it may not be for everyone. Because tolnaftate has a pregnancy rating of Category C, you should consult your physician before using if you are pregnant or nursing. What’s more, the natural oils in Formula 3® Antifungal condition the skin and do not contain essential oils, so the risk of an allergic reaction is very rare. However, some people with hypersensitive skin may experience redness and/or itching. If this occurs, stop treatment and contact your physician.

Is Formula 3 FDA Approved?

Tolnaftate, the active ingredient in Formula 3, has been FDA approved for over 50 years. Tetra Corporation’s proprietary technology makes Tolnaftate oil soluble.

What is Tolnaftate?

Tolnaftate is an antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections on the skin and foot such as ringworm, jock itch and athlete’s foot. Tolnaftate was synthesized in the early 1950’s by Japanese scientists and was approved as an over-the-counter drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1965. Until Formula 3 was developed, Tolnaftate was insoluble in oil or water and was emulsified in all medications

How is Formula 3 Different than All the Other Products that Use Tolnaftate 1% as the Active Ingredient?

Formula 3 is the only oil-based treatment available. It requires no drying time, is odorless, does not stain or leave any residue.

Any Skin Sensitivity Associated with the Use of Formula 3?

The oils in Formula 3 actually condition the skin. It is extremely rare to have a hypersensitivity to Tolnaftate which may result in a minor skin irritation. Simply stop treatment and the skin will clear. See your doctor if the condition persists.

What if I am Allergic to Nuts; Any Precautions?

Nut allergies are a reaction to the essential oils of the nut. Formula 3 contains no essential oils.

How to Use Formula 3 Solution:

Use this medication on the skin only. Clean and thoroughly dry the area to be treated. Apply this medication to the affected skin, usually twice a day or as directed on the product package or by your doctor. Dosage and length of treatment depends on the type of infection being treated. Some forms of tolnaftate (e.g., powder) need to be shaken before applying. Check your product package to see if your form of this medication needs to be shaken. Apply enough medication to cover the affected area and some of the surrounding skin. After applying this medication, wash your hands. Do not wrap, cover, or bandage the area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Do not apply this medication in the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time(s) each day. Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after starting tolnaftate. Stopping the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists after 2 weeks of treatment for jock itch, after 4 weeks of treatment for athlete’s foot or ringworm, or if your condition worsens at any time.
