Nowadays it seems that this subject is very much popular and there can be found a lots of question on the report that the increased occurrence of microcephaly is due to the use of pesticides than the spread of the virus zika.
Actually it is about the pesticide called pyriproxfen-larvicide which is intended to fight mosquito “Aedes aegypti”. The company that produces this pesticide is “Sumitomo Chemicals” associated with the agricultural giant Monsanto.
This poison has been used in the past 18 months and causes malformations to mosquitos, and the poison is released in the drinking water which is used by the population that lives there, and that was all ordered by the government. This was briefly reported by Argentine group “Physicians in Crop-Sprayed Towns (PCST) and was published last week.
Also it was added that the number of microcephaly is increased in Brazil, where is used pyriproxen, while in Colombia the infection with zika viruses are not connected with microcephaly although Colombia is on second place of the number of affected with zika virus.
Also it should be mentioned that not all of the microcephaly cases are connected to the virus zika. From the 723 cases examined in Brazil was found that over half of them were not related with microcephaly or with virus zika. It was published in the Washington Post, last month.
After this statement Brazilian government suspended the use of pyriproxyfen.
So what is really about in this case?
According to some evidences there are connection between microcephaly and pyriproxfen, and others called it conspiracy theory and the World Health Organization insists that pyriproxfen is safe in recommended amounts.
So far there are only circumstantial evidence that pyriproxfen is in the drinking water in Brazil and it might increase the risk of microcephaly and there is no definitive causal link between neurological disease and virus zika.
People are trying to figure out what is really happening and that’s why has so many hypotheses.
When WHO explicitly states that the relationship between microcephaly and virus zika is yet to be confirmed, here not about a lack of scientific evidence, but actually they are given more time scientists, which it is necessary to complete the examinations properly.
If you need to explicitly say that there is a connection, they need to be 100 percent sure that it is supported by solid evidence showing how virus zika infection causes biological changes in the fetus seriously impair growth.
“Unlike the relationship between virus zika and microcephaly virus that was confirmed by tests that showed the presence of the virus in blood samples, tissues and amniotic fluid, the connection between the use of pyriproxfen and microcephaly, has no scientific basis,” – says from the government Brazil.
“It is important to note that in places where pyriproxfen is not used, were detected cases of microcephaly.”
Director of the Department of Disease Control and the Department of Health of Pernambuco in Brazil, George Dimesh for “BBC” emphasizes that the city of Recife currently has the highest number of reported cases of microcephaly and that in this region pyriproxfen is not used, but another insecticide. Neurologist Vanessa van der Linden said “The changes we see in scanning babies suggest that damage is caused by congenital infection, not from insecticide or vaccine.
Given the circumstantial evidence of the connection with microcephaly with pyriproxfen then it is a wonder why microcephaly is not larger global problem. This pesticide is approved for use in the US and in Europe is used for years – although not in drinking water, as is the case in certain regions in Brazil.
Still there are lots of issues and unexplained questions. All that we know is that the microcephaly increased in the past months.
Many of them would not be immediately answered if scientists do not go out and say that there is definitely a connection between virus zika and microcephaly.
